Electronic power transformer (EPT) is a new type of power electronics device in power system, which can be applied to both the transmission system and in the distribution system. It combines power electronics technology and a high-frequency transformer to achieve the function of transformation and insulation. The characteristic of this device is smaller and lighter than traditional power transformer; a flexible control for the voltage amplitude and phase also can be achieved. It can satisfy many requests of future power system such as high-level stability, flexible power transmission, the conforming of distribution power source, and the real time control on the power flow under power market environment. It's very necessary to research the Electronic Power Transformer.Some typical schemes of EPT are generalized in this paper; the advantage of EPT's subassembly is analyzed, a simulation on applying the EPT to some fields of power system was carried out. This paper also has studied on the switch device in EPT main circuit, designed hardware and software of control system for EPT, and then made an EPT prototype. The result of experiment shows that on the primary side of EPT, unit power factor can be achieved, on the secondary side, better output voltage can be guaranteed.The theory and realization of EPT used in power system is a new field in power system research. The conclusion will provide some new thought and means for the production of transformer and application in the power system. And EPT will produce huge benefits.
