Castellated members are formed by cutting H-section steels in a zigzag or circular arc pattern along its centerline and then rejoining the two halves by welding makes. This increases its section modulus of inertia about its major axis and results in greater bending strength and stiffness without any increase in weight. They have already been used in industry and common buildings abroad. In our country there are more studies on castellated beams than on castellated columns, but it is very important to study the bearing capacity and the design method of castellated column to broaden the application of castellated members. In this thesis the castellated column subjected to axial pressure is analyzed. The Finite Element Method is applied to analyze the overall stability of castellated columns with different enlargement factors. A method of calculating the overall stability and carrying capacity of the castellated column by use of the equivalent slenderness factor is presented. In this thesis the castellated columns subjected to pressure and moment are also studied. By use of the similar idea mentioned above, the design method of castellated columns subjected to pressure and moment is also suggested. It is only studied castellated columns subjected to pressure and moment in one direction. It is needed to study castellated columns subjected to pressure and moment in two directions.
