In today's world, traffic safety is a major problem.Traffic accidents result in more than one million casualties each year and are associated with serious injuries and extensive material losses. Therefore, special attention is given to those technologies that can reduce the number and severity of road events. As a component of the intelligent transportation system (ITS) and one of the concrete applications of mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular network has attracted research attention from both USA, EU, and Japan.Summarizing some research projects of Vehicle Networks abroad in recent years and their experiences, We find that Inter vehicle communication (IVC) and vehicle to road communication (VRC) are considered to have extensive potential for the development of efficient safety systems installed in vehicles. To make above the two ways into realization, It is necessary to construct Vehicular Networks and design an efficient routing protocol to transmit data. Firstly, the applied requires of Vehicular Networks are analyzed, then, This paper presents a new architecture, Mixed Wireless Network (MWN), which integrates cellular network with ad hoc network in wireless local network and a adaptive Geocast protocol routing protocol (A-Geocast) which establishes a better path for the source to arrive at the destination across multiple hops and/or cellular network and provides appropriate quality of service for MWN. Through analysis of survivability of wireless routing pathes, we demonstrate the merits of WMN, and effects of the proposed routing protocol for WMN.Besides, we provide the future of improvement, optimization and designing ways of routing protocol in vehicular networks...
