This paper describes a based on elastic-body method for ship end launch calculations. Considering elasticity of ship structure and launch facilities (such as wooden blocks and sliding ways), the hull is modeled as an elastic beam and launch facilities as a series of springs, so the launch calculations can be done by FEM. The method not only carry out the same calculations as those by the traditional based on rigid-body method, predicting the distance slid by a ship and whether the pivoting and drop-off occur etc., but also estimates the hull deflection and longitudinal strength during the launch. Compared with the traditional method, the method provides more reasonable calculations and takes almost the same work because of quite simple finite element problems solved. The launch calculations of a 5600TEU container are given and compared with those by the traditional method.
