The measurement and evaluation on the fuel consumption of automobiles is of great significance for the following reasons: on the one hand, the shortages of domestic oil energy is becoming severe and the number of the automobile owners are increasing year by year, resulting in the pronounced conflicts between energy supply and energy demand, which Chinese government is attaching more importance to. On the other hand, the roaring price of international oil and the impending implement of new fuel consumption policy, have had various impacts on people's daily life and therefore enabled people to draw more attention to the measurement or evaluation on fuel consumption of automobiles.General speaking, the measurement on the fuel consumption is defined through the experiment of engine's fuel consumption, but the wide spread of electronic gasoline injection engine (EGI) has brought about a new problem to the measurement, i.e. traditional methods such as volume measurement and weight measurement cannot work when EGI engine returns oil by a great amount and supplies oil in a high pressure and when oil pipes have beared different pressure and temperatures. And also the application of special consumption instrument will increase cost, influence normal oil supply due to necessary conversion of oil way, and cause potential security problems. Therefore, it is an inevitable step to develop a new set of fuel measurement system, so as to meet practical needs of EGI engines' fuel measurement.Given the shortcomings of current fuel consumption measurement, this thesis puts forward and introduces a brand new way to measure EGI engines' fuel consumption in accordance to completely different principles from traditional ones. This system takes full advantage of the huge amount of information that are sent from ECU's output impulse signals, with combination of specific operating features of electromagnetic injectors (which is attained through special standard experiments) and automobiles' other operating parameters, so that, it can measure the injecting amount of EGI engine with precision. The results of experiments show that, this system has a simple, safe and convenient operation and can get the results promptly and precisely, thanks to use of more advanced sensors and MCU controlling system of AVR instead of traditional mechanical measurement, without changing oil way of EGI engine. And more important, it reduces the cost by a wide margin, therefore, such a system can be easily introduced in practical use.
