Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) has been taking significant attentions for use in civil infrastructure due to its unique properties, such as the high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance, fatigue strength and tailor ability. It is well known that FRP wraps increase the load-carrying capability and the ductility of concrete columns. But most of time, the members are always under sustained load when they strengthened with FRP in engineering practice. This study is intended as a step towards approaching this status.Based on the tests of strengthened concrete columns with externally bonded GFRP sheets under sustained load, the influences of sustained load on the compressive capacity of the externally bonded rectangular columns are researched. The formula for calculating the compressive capacity of the columns is put forward and the stress-strain model is suggested. At the same time, because the tests under sustained load have a long period and take a lot of labor, this study has preliminarily to make the computer simulation analysis on the preloaded concrete columns strengthen with FRP.
