| The settlement of sanitary landfill especially the long-term deformation is influenced by organic substance, the main portion of municipal solid waste (MSW). On the basis of the current research, the biodegradation of organic substance and settlement in MSW are analyzed in this paper elementarily. The main work of the thesis is as follows:1) Two tests are carried out about the weight of organic substance under two conditions of field capacity and saturation respectively, from which the law of change in the weight of biodegradation is analyzed, thus a model about the ratio of biodegradation in mass is constructed. At the same time, the features of gas and water produced from biodegradation and the influence of water content in biodegradation are also studied.2) Using the apparatus which is designed for researching settlement of MSW, two tests of settlement from biodegradation are carried out with no influence factors and the leachate everyday respectively, from which the law between settlement and time, the influence of leachate on different phase in biodegradation are found out.3) From the mechanism of deformation of MSW, the compression settlement model is set up and lately proved through the data from the tests about the settlement of organic substance and those from some sanitary landfill.
