Surface modification of powder is a important artifice, also is the magnitude content of new materials, new crafts and new product exploder. It can benefit the materials synthesize by improving the chemistry reaction character of powder; the mechanics of filling materials by improving the interface appetency of powder; the disperse application by controlling the surface cohesion of powder; functional powder preparation by acquiring the special surface physics capability of powder. The methods of powder surface modification in existence are done in reaction kettle, blend machine, high speed mill, high speed crumb, liquid state jet mill etc. Assistant measures are needed especially in chemistry modification, such as heating and churning up the powder and modifier. The heating methods now are all the transmission "from outside to inside", also the heating rate cannot be too fast to avoid big temperature grads, and it cannot heat selectively. Therefore, it is a quest and to be breakthrough task to research and exploit new surface modification methods of powder.Microwave has promoted microwave chemistry with its "thermal effect" and "non-thermal effect" characteristics. Microwave is widely used in synthesize chemistry, analytical chemistry, ceramic sintering, rubber, plastic etc. It is a quite actively new embranchment subject. The paper has researched the physical chemistry mechanism between powder and modifier at the point of surface modification technology and microwave chemistry, and supposed to provide the theory and experiment warrant for microwave-assisted surface modification of powder. It also has proved that the effect of microwave-assisted surface modification is better than traditional method, and discussed the mechanism.
