With the non-linear stiffness of air spring, recently air suspension systems have been more often used on heavy-duty trucks and buses because of the advantages in ride comfort and steer stability. Now, more companies pay more attention on air suspension systems. In order to save money and fixing easily, some companies have begun to research a new technology on air spring, changing the pedestal piston into an auxiliary chamber. In China, some research institutions have begun to research this new technology but now.We research the dynamic characteristic of air suspension system with auxiliary chamber in order to improve the ride comfort and the steer stability of heavy-duty trucks and buses. Assuming the live load and the live displacement are in the requisite range, we have researched how to improve the ride comfort of vehicle. We have established the non-linear equation of state of air spring with auxiliary chamber based on the hydrodynamics, and the math model of the air suspension systems with auxiliary. Based on this and MATLAB/Simulink, we have done simulation text research.The results show that the air suspension systems with auxiliary chamber can supply better ride comfort than the air suspension systems without auxiliary chamber, and the dynamic character of the air suspension with auxiliary chamber is interrelated observably to the size of the throttle orifice and the pressure of the gas in the spring. We get better ride comfort by reducing the pressure and increasing the diameter of the throttle orifice in a certain range.And, we tried to use PID controller to carry out control to the air suspension by changing the pressure of the air spring and the diameter of the throttle orifice. The result of the simulation test is ideal.The writer wishes our research for air suspension system with auxiliary chamber will help others who will research and design the air suspension systems of vehicle.
