Nowadays urban traffic is congested more and more, and the grade crossing is the main bottleneck, which leads to traffic jam. To ensure traffic safety and prevent traffic jam, traffic signal lights have been applied diffusely in most of the cities. However, the traditional traffic signal lights are usually controlled by electric circuitry and relay. Also few of them are constructed by PLC. These configurations are complex with low reliability. In this paper, a kind of new multi-phase network intelligent traffic signal machine is designed, which is based on computer technology, network communication technology and microelectronics technology.In this paper, the study on the urban traffic signal control system is study deeply. By understanding and analyzing the developing actuality of domestic and overseas traffic signal control system, a new kind of multi-phase communicable intelligent traffic control signal machine is designed. The signal machine can realize traffic administration without person at intersection. It can orderly command traffic by signal system which can automatically adjust phase difference. It can form green wave band that decreases delay so as to efficiently advance the passing capacity of intersection. In the design, reliability design is considered fully, and fault-tolerant technique, malfunction diagnoses technique and system auto-resume design is brought in. By using the effective error correction and preventive measures, the reliability of the system has been improved greatly.
