With extensive application of reinforced concrete, high-rise building and super length building become more and more. Expansion joint is not supposed to be located or at least frequently located for the requirements of function. So many new problems about structure have come into being, thermal effect is one of them. This paper discusses the kinds of thermal load and regularities of temperature distribution in reinforced concrete frame structure, analyzes the cause of thermal deformation and thermal stress. Thereafter this paper introduces principal theory of finite element method, and builds calculating model of thermal stress in reinforced concrete frame structure.Through ANSYS FEM program calculating, thermal deformation and stress have being calculated rising from various height, length, slab thickness, linear stiffness of beam and column during working life and construction period. The results show: the least thermal deformation appears at building bottom, then with the height increasing, thermal deformation becomes bigger, and the biggest thermal deformation is on the top. Thermal stress is bigger at bottom and on the top of building, and thermal stress is less in the middle of building. In the end, based on the analysis results, the author brings forward detailed measurements to decrease thermal deformation and thermal stress from aspect of design, construction and material selection. This may provide reference for design and construction.
