This paper is to summarize common used air conditioning systems in typical modern business buildings. Focusing on several popular types of buildings, ~ Business/residential buildings, private owned business buildings, etc., this paper is trying to analysis the characters of the AC systems based on the common requirement of separate charging. There are many kinds of AC systems which match the requirement, - Fan cooling units, multiple VRV systems, home based central AC systems, water loop heat pumps, etc. The author adopts systematic analysis on all the AC systems above to optimize charging methods. For Water source AC systems, there are several charging methods, ~ area oriented, energy gauge oriented, timing accumulated software oriented, etc. For VRV systems, commonly attached electrical expansion valves based on turn down ratio are adopted. For home based central AC systems, charging methods based on energy consumption are reasonable. For water loop heat pump systems, central/separated combined charging methods are common and the measurement of electricity is required. From the case study, a conclusion could be made that it is not ideal using water source AC systems for separate charging units comparing on accuracy or fairness. VRV systems are not suitable for cold areas according to the heating efficiency, plus higher installation cost. Home based central AC systems have many disadvantages which are described in the paper. Water loop heat pump systems are ideal for business buildings which require separated charging. The WLHP systems have many unique advantages which are not available from other options and the accuracy is reliable enough. This paper mainly introduces systematically the characters, the system styles, the design methods, the equipments selection processes for water loop heat pump AC systems. Based on a typical project, the author draws a conclusion that WLHP systems have many advantages on separate charging, energy saving and advertisement effect for the developers. This paper describes details of WLHP systems using technical and economical analysis. It is obvious that WLHP systems are suitable for business buildings which require separate charging.
