The research on the settlement of passive pile's pile spacing has been done for a long time. Many scholars have done much work in this field and great achievement has been made. But there is still too much to do. On the basis of the precursor's achievement, my paper makes a simple introduction in the mechanism of the form of the soil arc, the condition of the exist of the soil arc, and the difference between soil arc and arc structure. For the analysis on internal force and failure mode on the condition of proper arc axis theory, my paper has done deep research.By analyzing the possible failure model of the soil arc, my paper presents the mathematic formulae of every failure model. On the behalf of numerical simulation, the finite elemental analysis software ANSYS6.1 was used in analyzing the form of the soil arc and the factors which influent it. The conclusion was agreed to the precursor's numerical analyses and experiments result after comparing.The result of the research indicates that the proper arc axis of horizontal soil arc is parabola while that of the vertical is funicular curve. In the analysis on internal force, the calculating formula is attained and contrasted with the conclusion based on elastic theory.The analysis result proved the exist of soil arc again. When s/d>8, the efficiency of soil arc was little even no at all. The smaller the s/d was, the more obvious soil arc efficiency presents. When s/d>6, the effect of pile diameter was insignificant. The effect of pile diameter will increase with the s/d reduced.There will be more efficiency of soil arc when pile's diameter is smaller, on condition that s/d is constant. Compared with round piles, square piles can deliver loads better, about 5 percent more than round pile. The efficiency of soil arc becomes significant with soil's c and ψ grows, but in a decreasing speed. About 10% of the total load is carried by soil at least because 70%—90% of the load isdelivered to the pile according to s/d.Through the research on the soil arc, the computational method of proper settlement of pile spacing was developed based on the soil arc's failure model. The availability of this method was proved by practice.At last, my paper has perfected the theory of infinite slice method and deduced the formula under three conditions: loads on the top of slope, sloping on the top of the slope, and the failure surface without going through the slope foot. I hope it can be help to the slope stability analysis.
