Location Theory, a theory on spatial structure of economy organization, came into being in early 19 century. In the past one and a half century, it has spread from economics to geography and enlarged its research objects and become a universally spatial law of industry, agriculture, commerce, urban and so on.. But with the revolution of information technologies, it can not accommodate to the new situation. At first, the thesis studies the evolutional process of the industrial development and spatial distribution in developed countries. The study is divided into five phases based on the different stages of industrial development, draws a conclusion and summary of the spatial impacts of technological changes. Hereupon, it studies and analyzes the main location factors of industrial development and location selection and thinks that there are five main factors being the base of the traditional location theory, including material, transportation, labor, market, agglomeration. And then, the thesis discusses the changes of the five factors under the new background of the information revolution. Especially the change from energy to information is the key point of new view to the traditional location theory. Later the paper makes a probe into the effect that the changes do on urban development and concludes that the primary developments of high-tech industrial spatial distribution of city include the following aspects: diversified spatial patterns, global production, external transportation, research & development, environment, informational communities, flexible development mode.At last, according to the special condition of Chinese economic development and urban spatial distribution, the studies wants to explore the characteristics of high-tech industrial development and spatial distribution based on the case study of Nanjing city of Jiangsu province, tries to provide the helpful suggestions for the high-tech industrial and spatial development of a city.
