Ferroelectrics cathode is a high-density electron beam pulse source. It has many advantages when comparing with traditional thermionic cathode. It is believed that it is a promising alternative for thermionic cathode and field emission cathode. Since 90s 20th century, many important progresses in ferroelectrics cathode have been made. With the researches on the theory and experiments of this field, many new ferroelectrics devices will come into being and will have important usages in high-tech domain. In this dissertation, piezoelectric effect and acoustic oscillation of the ferroelectrics cathode during the process of electron emission are carefully considered. Based on the existing theories and experimental phenomena a new mechanism on the ferroelectrics cathode electron emission is presented. It relates the reason of electron emission from ferrolectrics cathode to the compression on the surface plasma derived from piezoelectric effect and acoustic oscillation. Using this new mechanism, many puzzled problems left by existing theories are solved. A ferrolectrics cathode driver has been designed and realized by using Power MOS FET parallel connection techniques and Protel99 software. The fabrication arts of PZT and LiNbO3 ferroelctrics cathodes have also been studied. Finally, the experiments of electron emission from these two cathodes have been processed. 64A/cm2 and 58A/cm2 pulse electron emission current densities for PZT and LiNbO3 cathodes respectively have been observed.
