Study Of Climate Adaptability Of Vernacular Architecture In Southeast Of Hubei Province

The vernacular architecture has close relationship with climate, it has to adapt to the climateenvironment, and has the ability to change the microclimate and creat a better one for mankind tolive more conveniently and more comfortable. Tongshan County, Yangxin County and theirsurrounding areas in the southeast Hubei are districts which have abundant traditional villages andvernacular architectures. Hubei district demonstrate typical characteristic of continental climate:winter cold and summer hot , monsoon climate , rain in hot season. Except the long and unbearablesummer and winter, frequently rains all year long and moist environment are heavy characteristic ofsoutheast Hubei too. We have more intuitionistic and more perceptual understanding of localvernacular architecture through the investigation and research on the spot.The economic condition of countries of southeast hubei is limited. In the face of the unfavorableclimate environment, the traditional dwellings of southeast hubei need not only heat preservation andheat insulation, but also aeration and dampproof. So a series of measures are took on the siteselection of village, the overall arrangement of building, the form selection of local-style dwelling,the space organization, the drainage system, the building materials choice and the buildtechnology,etc. All measures help the vernacular architecture to dampproof and improve thecomfortable degree, and create a more suitable microclimate environment for mankind and houses.The nature is an organic whole including the human society, we must get along with herharmoniously, so we should learn to economize resources and respect the environment. Thevernacular architects of southeast Hubei Province contains a simple ecological view of complyingwith the nature, these ideas and tactics worth our further investigating, especially when werecommend sustainable development today.
