Mixed dam is an economic dam that takes advantage of orographic conditions. In the past, people did not pay much attention to it, so study on it isn't enough. Because that there is no satisfice to the problems about connection and earthquake-resisting of the connection between concrete and soil in great intensity grade district, high mixed dams are seldom builded . In this article inserted type mixed dam is selected to research. Paper elements are used to simulate the contact surfaces between concrete key-wall and clay core. The author also discusses the impact of the calculating parameter of paper elements on the response of the mixed dam. By FEM static and dynamical calculating to an example of regular mixed dam and one mixed dam in xinjiang , the author analyses the static and dynamic response to every contact surface of the mixed dam and the destroyed region that breacks up easily. The following are the summing-ups:1. Setting the contact paper element is only to relax the stress concentration that appears because that concrete key-wall and clay core are different in mechanical character. There is very little influence of the calculating parameter of paper elements on the seismic response of the mixed dam if proper weight of calculating parameter is selected.2. Settlement beside concrete key-wall is among permitted range, but there is much difference comparing to settlement of concrete key-wall ,so strengthening construction quality and advancing roller criterion are necessary. On different contact faces especially the connection between concrete key-wall and clay core, the stress concentration appears. In order to ensure great pressure on the contact face and unite tightly to avoid crazing, the access ramp of concrete dam and clay core should not be very steep.3. Very little tensile stress appears on top of connection of dam during storage period; Under seismic load, the acceleration response on top of dam is great .enlargement factor exceeds 2.0.
