The development of hydropower has entered a brand-new developing period at present. The development of valley has already take shape. At the same time, the automatic degree of hydroelectric stations is improving constantly too. a lot of large-and-middle-scale hydroelectric stations all realize AGC function basically. The controll center of hydroelectric stations of a valley realizes AGC(Automatic Generation Control) to hydroelectric stations on the same valley. It can realizes the economic dispatching of the whole valley, improve the utilization ratio of the water resource, produce the enormous economic and social benefits. It's the inevitable trend of the development of valley and improving the power network operation's safety and economy. It's also the hydroelectric stations and power network's goal that they improve the automatic degree. It's the embodiment of the hydropower vocation's modernization in our country.Firstly, this paper recites the development of hydropower, the hydroelectric stations' effect in the electric power system and the electric power system's request to the operation of hydroelectric stations in order to explain that hydroelectric stations play very important role in the electric power system of our country, at the same time they take very enormous benefit to our national economy and society, but they must satisfy the dynamical balance of the electric power system.Secondly, it introduces the dynamical characteristic of the hydroelectric stations which is the base of associated dispatching of the cascaded hydroelectric stations. It summarize the economic operation of the hydroelectric stations. Comparing with some optimal rules of associated dispatching of the cascaded hydroelectric stations, the rule that maximize the total sluice of calculating end of the cascaded hydroelectric stations' reservoirs, can make the cascaded hydroelectric stations obtain the largest benefit when their charge is given by the the network control center. It set up the mathematics models of the restriction conditions of the cascaded hydroelectric stations including the cascaded and themselves' restriction conditions.At present, there is much arithmetic that solves the optimal dispatching of thecascaded hydroelectric stations, such as DP(Dynamic Programming), POA,GA(Genetic Algorithm). Comparing with them, GA has the characteristic of computing together and the ability of adaptive search. Its applicable extension is wide, the ability of searching optimization is strong, the realization of program is simple, the account precision is high, it engrosses few memories, its account speed is rapid. It's fit for solving this complicated nonlinear programming problem like the optimal dispatching of the cascaded hydroelectric stations.Finally, combining the economic operation of four cascaded hydroelectric stations in Wujiang valley, it applies GA to search their optimization. It displays the ability of GA searching optimization is very strong. It also simply research the engineering realization of the cascaded control system of Wujiang cascaded control center.It has the academic reference significance for the economic operation of the cascaded hydroelectric stations in Wujiang valley, and builds the nicer foundation for the deeper research in the future.
