A new type of bearingless disk PM motor is proposed. The theoretical analysis shows the decouple of rotation and levitation. The rotor is actively controlled only in two radial directions and rotation while the other three motions are passively stable owing to the short-span structure.Thanks to the main advantages of simple control mechanism, low power consumption and no friction, the motor can be used in such fields as avitation and space flight, high speed rotary machines, energy engineering, life sciencess and so on. The principle and basic structure of the inner rotor type disk bearingless PM motor is analysed and mathematical model for the radial force is worked out. Also, the mechanical structure, the winding of the motor and the parameter is designed. For the control of the motor, two kinds of power amplifier which can provides bidirectional current is designed, the linear and PWM switch power amplifier. The control system and the motor is fabricated with which the experiment is carried out. Experimental results show the stable levitation of the rotor with high speed from the good performance of the motor system can be seen.
