The accident caused by lightening strike in the electric power system has been the most fatal factor for the security of the electric power system. According to the latest statistics, there are about 50% accidents caused by lightening strike in the whole accidents in the electric power system. Half of the accidents caused by lightening strike are caused by the max lightning steepness . Although the max lightning steepness and the maximum of the lightening current have the same important significance to the project, there is few research on the distributing rule for the probability of the max lightning steepness with magnetic tapes.This Study in this paper shows that the proposed method is superior to the present method for the lightning current measuring in the economical, practicability and precision of measurement. Another important point is that the magnetic tape detector can measure the lightning steepness directly, largely expand the magnetic tape appliance field. This is significant for analyzing lightning accident completely andaccurately and finding out the cause of lightning accident as aspect of lightning current peak and lightning steepness. Magnetic tape detector can offer a new way for developing highly precise lightning census in large region from lightning current peak and lightning steepness.
