Fault generated high frequency transient components based power system protection-transient based protection can do well in settling the conflict between speediness and reliability in traditional protection for EHV transmission line. Wavelet analysis provides an efficient tool for signal processing in transient based protection. The paper discusses wavelet transform principles and their applications in signal processing. On the base, a non-unit transient voltage algorithm and a transient voltage based fault phase selection algorithm are presented. The simplified 500kv transmission line is simulated using ATP and its simulation data are treated with using Matlab, which is validating the algorithms. The simulation results prove the algorithms are feasible.
