Statistical data indicate that the interior and exterior overvoltage appearing frequently in power network are the primary reasons of various electric power accidents. The on-line monitoring device is needed to catch the overvoltage waveforms for rightly analyzing accident reason. But the most existent devices in market at present can only record the interior overvoltage because of sampling speed; furthermore it is can not record the lightning overvoltage due to the long response time of voltage divider and bus bar PT. In this paper, an on-line device for monitoring overvoltage is developed, which based on the centralized PC bus. This device can record interior overvoltage as well as exterior overvoltage, and at the same time, fast-speed frequency response can satisfy the engineering needs perfectly. Through the practical run with the power network, it is seemed that the device can catch the overvoltage waveform in time and analyze the reasons of overvoltage accurately, which shows that the device works reliably and stably.
