qThermal storage technologies have broad applications in solar energy utilization, balancing electrical power load, recovery of industry waste heat and other energy conservation applications. In order to reduce the pressure of national electricity grid and responding to the off-peak electricity utilization policy, many cities have carried out the policy on electricity charge which was different charge in different period, electricity thermal storage heating is to be a main heating choose. With the support of National '973'Project and Beijing Natural Science Foundation, plenty of literature was read, and a critical review of thermal energy storage theory and technology was grasped. The advantages and disadvantages between latent thermal storage and sensible thermal storage were compared, and the high temperature sensible thermal storage technology for home heating was decided to research. Thus a set of high temperature sensible thermal energy storage radiator (TESR) was designed and manufactured; and a special automatic control system was development to combat the time and load control requirements. The physical model of TESR was simplified and the lumped heat capacity analysis method to simulate the charge and discharge processes of the radiator was used. After processing the data, the discharge rate variation of thermal energy storage (TES) with time was got, the thermal storage effectiveness of TESR during the off-peak application, the influences of natural convection discharge or forced convection discharge on discharge rate during the peak of electricity application. The experimental results and those of computer simulation were compared, and the results are that the thermal storage effectiveness of experiment is lower than that of computer simulation;The natural convection discharged effectiveness of slot was higher than that of computer simulation. The main reason was that the airproof of TSE was not solved well, and led to serious discharged heat loss of TES during the period of running.
