As a non- contacting seal, dry gas seals can achieve the zero —leakage function theoretically, compared with other types seal, it have the merits of reliability, long life, no pollution and economical characteristic, so it are more widely used in the petroleum and chemical industrials. Recently there are lots of investigations about it, but most of them are focused on simplifying the problem as two-dimensional model for convenience. Furthermore, there are few papers reported the temperature field of the gas film, primary and match rings. By three-dimensional physical model of the dry gas seal, which is agreed with the actual physical model, this paper carries out the numerical simulation of the gas seal and makes ready for the further research later.Therefore, on the basis of investigations of plenty of literatures about dry gas seals, the important task of this paper is on the basis of computational fluid dynamics and numerical heat transfer, from the full governing equations of the fluid mechanism, founded on the finite volume method (FVM), used the famous software FLUENT, establishes the three-dimensional model, meshes the model, researches and simulates the gas field of the spiral groove dry gas seal, discusses the conjugated problem between the heat convection and conduction, solves the conjugated problem between solid and fluid models, analyses and simulates the temperature field, provides the right temperature field for the further researches of stress and deformation of the seal rings, so that it can instruct the theory, designing and other several aspects of dry gas seals.
