Being charged with the irrigation, drainage and water supply, the large modern pumping station is adopting comprehensive automation to improve its efficiency. The system of comprehensive automation owns the knowledge of automation, circulation and management,so it develops very fast. Designing a well comprehensive automation fit for a large modern pumping station's need is an important task of a pumping station. A study from the side of practice and theory have been carried in this paper.Firstly, the paper presents the design of the comprehensive automation system based on network. The whole design includes spot process, process monitoring level and management level. Analyzing the hardware system of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) including the interface of PLC and pot of pumping station, control flow of PLC and communication between PLC and upper machine. Protracting the flow chart of the whole RTU system.Secondly, being disadvantages of the traditional control, this paper discusses the theory of fuzzy control optimizing the pumping units of pumping station. In order to prove the theory's excellency, an example is given to analyse. The example can presents the whole control process of fuzzy optimizing.Last, based on the pump's characteristics and performances, the theory of pump saving energy is presented in detail. It is conducted from combining character of fan and pipe net, the relationship between rotate speed and pumping-up height and the relationship between rotate speed and power. Then, the simple math model of induction motor is deduced , the model of the Variable-Frequency liquid-lever control system is built, the fuzzy PID controller based on the model is also built. The fuzzy PID controller can optimize the conventional PID controller because it is able to tune the three parameters of PID on-line. In order to prove the advantages of the fuzzy PID controller, the simulation of the whole system is produced by Matlab language. The last simulation curves show this controller is better than the conventional PID controller and achieve more effective control.
