Development of electricity is related to development of national economic very closely. Today, economic is developing very fast in China. To keep economic developing continuously and settle the problem of demand and supply of electricity, many power plants are built along the coast. Thermal discharge from the plant will effect the adjacent water area, to some extent, even to cause thermal pollution, the coastal environment is deteriorated badly. The key is to learn the thermal distribution in order to avoid thermal pollution. This question is studied in this paper. In estuaries and coastal seas, the tidal flow is a basic hydrodynamics factor, which effects other substance movement. So we should learn the tidal flow field in detail firstly. The main task of this paper is to study a two-dimensional software to simulate the hydraulic and thermal characteristics in tidywater. This software is applied in Shen Zhen Qian Wan Power Plant and the numerical prediction is in consistent with the survey data. Specified as follows:1 Using Finite Volume method, a two-dimensional RNG k— e turbulence model is established. Then on the staggered rectangular grid, the formula is discrete with Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked equations.2 The tidal field near the power plant harbor is simulated in this paper. The calculated result is analyzed and the figures of current fields are respectively drawn according to the result.3 Based on the hydrodynamic model, a numerical model is established to simulate the thermal transport and dispersion in the coastal water. According to the intake and outlet system of Qian Wan Power Plant, this calculation gives the temperature field.4 The calculated result is coincided with the survey data. So it can be concluded that this numerical model would be available of analogous engineering.
