With the rapid development of the current science and technology, robot welding has not been a dream any more, robot welding has been applied to many fields home and abroad, such as auto, machinery lifting and so on. Robot welding just has been used to try in the filed of railway wagon manufacture. Welding the center sills of railway wagons with welding robot is unprecedented through the investigation. The text mainly disserted the processing research work in the aspects of the center sills welding with robot in Qiqihar Rolling Stock (Group) Co., Ltd. The project is technical renovation item of railway ministry with special capital supplied and also one of main projects of technical renovation in railway ministry with setting the plot and founding produce line. The research of welding robot for railway wagons begin with the current condition of railway wagons center sills at first, the basic condition of center sills production is analyzed. As for the production situation of center sills, it is fully analyzed from the production processing of center sills, the reasonable technology process and production technology plan are drafted. Finally robot welding system of center sills is determined alternatively in terms of the structural features of center sills, applying circumstance of robot welding system, etc. In the current, manual electric arc welding and manual melting pole shielded arc welding is adopted for center sills of railway wagons with the features of low efficiency, inferior quality and high physical strength. In order to improve the production efficiency and welding quality and decrease physical strength, the production process is reanalyzed and determined, the new technology process is tried to use in welding center sills with welding robot. Assembly dimensions and precision of all parts need high requirements with robot welding. Therefore, when determining the production process of robot welding, the adjustment is done for the dimensions of key components and main location dimensions precision of center sills, assembly jig and rotation shifter for center sill assembly need to be designed again. As the center sill is heavy, hydraulic location and clamping are applied in order to ensure high location precision. When the welding location shifter is designed, approaching sensor and PLC are applied to accurately control rotation angle of center sills, making communication with welding robots to realize automatic control . During the system determination of welding robot for center sills, in terms of the features of long and big center sill, small space at local welding area, large working capacity, deflection of center sills, large side bending, etc, and application scope including welding scope of welding robot, type of wire feeder, work piece structure of welding tracing, etc, reasonable complete robot welding system is determined through reasonable choice. When circuit weld hole is welded on center sills, CIR command adopted traditionally to weld circle arc is changed due to narrow welding space. ARC command has substituted for CIR command, resolving undercut welding defects existing on circuit weld seam.
