Guardrail for highway was being used since 1920 .With the variation of vehicle types and the rapid development of highway,Guardrail for highway gets better and better through all countries'endeavor. Firstly, the types, the characteristics and the development of guardrails in abroad and home are analyzed. Secondly the basis principle of dynamic explicit finite element method is introduced and the academic foundation for later chapter is placed. Then the finite element model during the collision of vehicle-guardrail is built and the maximal acceleration at the mass center of the vehicle is calculated by simution. Compared with the result get by static method,it is proved that finite element method is feasible. On the base of this, the finite element models of W-beam and three-beam are built and the simulations are carried out. By the contrast of accelerations, it is expressed that the performance of three-beam is superior to that of W-beam. At the same time, the importance of block in the guardrail structure is embodied. Finally the value index for automobiles collide with barrier is given. The influence of dimension parameters of guardrail structure is analyzed. Then the team-test based on the orthodoxy test method is performed and the test project is established. After that, the best dimension parameters of guardrail structure is obtained, the result expressed that the performance of the guardrail optimized is better than that of the standard.
