With the high speed development of the economy and the increase of people's living standard, higher security and reliability of the distribution network are required. How to connect the network properly under the circumstance of specific power loads and transformer substations is an important topic. The current situation of the network system is analyzed in this paper and the specialties of the system are discussed as well. The common optimal design algorithms are analyzed and compared in this paper, and Partheno-Genetic Algorithm is introduced to the distribution network design. In this paper, its application is described in details from genetic coding, start solution producing, unit evaluation, power flow calculation and PGA operation. The analysis of single power supply network and double power supply network shows that the application of PGA in distribution network optimal design is feasible, and has the specialties of simple coding operation, high calculation efficiency and easily dealing with restriction requirements.
