Damage identification is a burgeoning subject in recent years. Its main content is to judge whether structure has been damaged and determine differentiate degree, location and the tendency of change of damage.The damage identification method of the civil engineering structure that appeared in recent years has been summarized in this paper. The damage identification technology that based on natural frequency has characteristic as followed: simple measure method, ripe analytic method and high precision, so natural frequency was selected as object to identify the damage. The concrete stake is simplified as a free — spring bar. Then considered the spring support of bar, the theory deduction proves that the stiffness is the function of frequency and location of damage. A new method of damage identification on free-spring bar is put forward. The results of numerical simulation and experiment study show that the method is feasible in civil engineering.
