| Steel tower has some characteristics,such as factory processing,small in size(compared with concrete),light in deadweight, quick in construction ,which enable it to be widely used in the long-span bridges.It is the first time that the steel tower is applied in Nanjing 3rd Yangzi River Bridge in China.The bridge is twin-tower and double plane cable-stayed bridge with steel main tower and steel main girder,the main tower is designed as an "人" shape.All segments are connected by the high tensile bolts (HTB).It has the reputation of "China's First Steel Tower".It is the first time that the steel tower is designed and constructed in China without mature understanding and construction experience. As for this situation, this thesis introduces the design and construction of the steel tower as well as the foundation of the whole supervision system. Cooperating the erection process, this thesis analysed each phase of the thrusting operation using finite element methods before the first horizontal-beam was built, making a comparison between the monitor achievement and the theoretical and analytical results about mechanics and geometry,we safely conclude that, up till now, this supervision system adopted in the control of the steel tower, was able to work well to the shape and internal force of the tower ,and meet the demands for the design precision, It may provide reference and experience for the design and the construction of the steel tower in the long-span bridges in future.The tower of NanJing 3rd Yangzi River Bridge is 215m in height and includes 178.69m steel tower.
