In the past 30 years ,with the development of hyraulics,electronics, control, internal combustion engine and human's more concern on environment,many countries focus on the research of a kind of special engine—hydraulic free piston engine,HFPE. A hydraulic free piston engine integrates internal combustion engines and a hydraulic pump into one compact unit with only one linearly moving part—the piston assembly.When the piston assembly moves linearly back and forth between left and right extremes,by means of the simple design, its hydraulic pistons produce direct hydraulic energy.Because the hydraulic free piston engine has no mechanical linkages to control the piston motion ,the piston motion of the hydraulic free piston engine differs significantly from the piston motion of the conventional crankshaft engine .The piston assembly stays at top dead centre a very short time and moment and position of the top dead centre have to be estimated precisely, which is very important to control actions. So the control of HFPE is a very demanding task. To get better performance of control of HFPE, a high-speed controller based on DSP and industrial personal computer is developed. and accomplishs the hardware design and software design. With the DSP controller several experiments are performed upon HFPE prototype.The contents of this thesis covers six sections as follows:The first chapter introduces vary kinds of free piston engine, the development of hydraulic free piston engine worldewide and the technology related with hydraulic free piston control system i.e. the technology of internal combution engine and the technology of digital signal processing. Then the working characteritics of the dual piston hydraulic free piston engine (DPHFPE) prototype are described. At last the project significance, main research contens of this project are provided.The second chapter gives a detailed decription of dual piston hydraulic free piston engine prototype and the components of control system of the prototype .then analyze the start-up process of the dual piston hydraulic free piston engine prototype.The third chapter presents a hardware design of the dual piston hydraulic free...
