Intra-operative position sensing and tracking devices(Optical Localizer) are fundamental building blocks which are often used in Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery(CAOS).This kind of device refers to a type of sensor which can localize one or more discrete points in 3D space, can also computerobject orientation when 3 or more measured points are attached to a single rigid object. These devices are used during surgery to precisely localize conventional surgical tools, rigid anatomical structures, other medical imaging equipment (e.g., X-Ray, ultrasound scanners or MRI), surgical implants, etc. For example, in computer-assisted spine surgery, it may be desirable to determine the position and orientation of a drill relative to a vertebral body.Optical Localizer have the very high accuracy and reliability, but very expensive. The work in this paper aims to develop a practical Optical Localizer with high accuracy, this work will aid in the realization of Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery System. The work emphasises on some key technologies for the development of Optical Localizer such as Camera Calibration, 3D Reconstruction and Object Real-time Tracking and so on.The hige accuracy of the system is a important target. During of the work, a mount of experiment was done for verifying the Localizer's accuracy, which is a good result under the present conditions of Lab.
