Backlash adjustable plane wormgear with variable tooth thickness enveloping worm transmission (shorted as plane wormgear with variable tooth thickness drive) is a patent developed by Professor Zhang Guanghui. As a new worm transmission, it has its significant advantages: Firstly, axial position of wormgear can be adjusted to regulate tooth side clearance between worm and gear so that backlash is decreased, which lead to less vibration and more precision and stability of transmission. Secondly, the worm can ben quenched and then precise grinded by plat-faced wheel.Moreover,the gear can be cut with precise index plate.Compared with conventional wheel,it is machined without worm hobbing cutter and hobbing machine,which elimilate errors caused by hobbing cutter and hobbing machine. Thirdly,as one of oblique plane primary enveloping worm drive, which has more meshing tooth pairs,it has high contact ratio leads to strong bearing capability,which near to plane double enveloping worm drive. As a new worm drive combine characteristics of precise transmission and power transmission. At present, systematical study of fabrication process of this new transmission set has been done. more jobs need to be done on its practical application. Because of cylindrical worm have some weaknesses on load capability, efficiency, adjustment possibility of tooth backlash and so on. Therefore, on purpose of improving integral performance of traction machine, plane worm with variable tooth thickness may be used as primary drive mechanism in traction machine instead of cylindrical worm. Through the depth analyse into the meshing characters of cylindrical wormgear and plane worm with variable tooth thickness,demonstrated that feasible to set plane wormgear with variable tooth thickness in the traction machine.The design and strength-check were completed for the plane worm with variable tooth thickness which will be used in the traction machine,with rate load 1.0 ton,rated velocity 1.0m/s. The design of plane worm with variable tooth thickness traction machine was compelted in the light of the elevator traction machine design theory.In the end,the superiority of plane worm with variable tooth thickness traction machine was proofed by the efficiency and load capacity test to the cylindrical wormgear and plane worm with variable tooth thickness traction.
