Underwater acoustic models are now routinely used to forecast acoustic conditions for planning at-sea experiments, designing optimized sonar systems and predicting sonar performance at sea. Modeling has become the chief mechanism by which researchers and analysts can simulate sonar performance under laboratory conditions. The character of typical radiation noise from vessels is studied in this paper, adaptive FIR filter is applied to simulate this noise in computer and test and verify effetivity and practicability of this method which can simulate wide-band radiation noise and test the performance of passive sonar signal processing algorithm. The main works are as follows:1.The history and present state of typical radiation noise are principally explained, the purpose and contents are also explained, in order that basic understanding for ship radiating noise is made clear by us..2. The mechanism of production, property and constitution for ship radiating noise are analysed .based on ship radiating noise , theory of simulation and modeling of ship radiating noise are provided.3.Building the empirical model of ship radiating noise. Firstly classic Ross empirical model is provided ,and history using is set forth, an improving model named RS is buildt..4. Simulating the ship radiating noise. Wideband noise of ocean is simulated by FIR adaptive filter ,then an improved FIR adaptive filter can simulate ship radiating noise, the result of simulation is approximate to the real spectro of ship radiating noise.
