Thermal pipe is a kind of two-phase closed thermosyphon in use of civil engineering. With high-efficiency heat transfer, isothermicity and environment-protected treat, thermal pipe has been widely applied for industry and housing building, highway engineering and roadway engineering, airfield runway, oil transfer, communication pole and tower, water conservancy dam and so on. Thermal pipe embankment is one of engineering measures to protecting embankment thermal stability, to eliminating frost-heaving and thaw settlement disease and other harmful cryogenic phenomena diseases in permafrost regions. The paper makes a summary of study actuality of thermal pipe technology, has an introduction to thermal pipe basic work principle and work characteristic, thermal pipe embankment and its thermal characteristic, and simple analysis for thermal pipe embankment stability. For maintaining permafrost thermal pipe embankment, the concrete design computing and choice of basic design parameters have been given. The paper analyzes the effectiveness of thermal pipe embankment eliminating uneven frost-heaving through reducing depth of seasonal thawing from thermal pipe heat insulation in the warm seasons, accelerating freezing ratio and adding one isothermal freezing layer from thermal pipe cold gathering in the cold seasons, and has an simple introduction to design computing using the thermal computing of heat insulation rate and cold gathering rate.
