Micro-unmanned helicopters have comprehensive applications in military and civilian. Recently they have been as the study object of many institutions and organizations all over the world. The studies of micro-unmanned helicopter in our country are at the beginning. During the research of aircrafts, flight simulation is one of the necessary approaches. Three-axis flight simulator is the vital instrument for flight simulation test. It could be used in the closed-loop simulation test of flight control system and inertial navigation system. But almost all the large simulators are expensive and complicated. So it is valuable to design a pint-sized three-axis flight simulator suitable for the micro unmanned helicopters.For the causes above-mentioned, this paper introduces a new three-axis flight simulator based on Mitsubishi MR-J2S ac servo system designed for the micro-unmanned helicopters. First of all, the dynamics modal of the simulator was presented. Then the thesis discussed the general design of the simulator. This simulator is horizontal arrangement and immediately driven by electric servo motors. Additionally, we discussed several important aspects of the simulator research. Frames design, capability selection of servo motors and precision emendation were the mechanical problems. In the control aspect, this system had a two-stage control structure composed of host computer and slave computer. Serial communication was used between the host computer and the slave computer. Photoelectric encoders are used as the feedback elements to compose the closed-loop control system. PID controllers were applied in the position control and speed control of the simulator control system. In the end, this paper introduced the software design in the host computer. The hardware-in—the-loop simulation test results indicated that the controlperformance of this simulator could meet the demands of design.
