In this paper, the deformation and strength characteristics, the collapsibility coefficient , the void ratio, collapse deformation and the collapse speed along with the time variation characteristic is studied by means of high-pressure consolidation test, the uniaxial confined collapse test, the tri-axial even consolidation test, the tri-axial compression test on the K0 condition and the tri-axial collapse test of intact loess sample with different initial water content , remolded loess sample with different initial water content and different initial dry unit weight. Then the water sensitivity and the structure of loess is research under these conditions. It is studied that the rule of the loess compression deformation and the collapse distortion changes along with time. Thus the index is proposed which can reflect the water sensitivity.Through above research, many useful and beneficial conclusions are got. The mainly conclusion as follow:By analyzing the experimental data of high-pressure consolidation test, the uniaxial collapse test, the tri-axial respectively consolidation test, the tri-axial compression test on the K0 condition and the tri-axial collapse test, and learning the deformation & strength characteristics of loess, collapse deformation of loess, a formula which can calculate the collapsibility coefficient is put forward at any time, Simultaneously the concept—volume coefficient of collapsibility is given. It is found that the collapsibility coefficient calculated by above formula is well according with the computed value by traditional formula which given in the criterion. So it is indicated the promoted formula calculating the collapsibility coefficient is reasonable.It is hard to establish the former structural constitutive relation, in which has many parameters. Based on the criterion, a formula that calculates the coefficient of collapsibility is set up, in which contains few parameters. The formula indicates the change rule of collapsibility coefficient of collapse loess at any time. In this article a new research idea is advanced for current loess mechanics research hot topic—the water sensitivity and the collapsibility. And it is well beneficial to study the water sensitivity the collapsibility coefficient of loess.
