Vibration of hydrogenerator unit is a main parameter which reflects the running status of the unit. It is vital to monitor vibration and diagnose the vibration fault of hydrogenerator unit for the purpose of ensuing the safety and stability of the running. Rough set theory can help analyze and deal with the incorrect, inconsistent and intact data effectively, and simplify them. For the first time, this paper applies rough set theory to hydrogenerator unit fault diagnosis, establishes a fault diagnosis system for hydrogenerator unit vibration based on rough set. By analyzing and diagnosing the monitoring data obtained from No. 1 unit in Suofengying hydropower plant, the paper draws a correct diagnosing conclusion, and proves the validity and feasibility of the approach.Initially, the current research situations and trends both home and abroad are described, and those of the fault diagnosis are emphasized in particular. After the theories of hydrogenerator unit vibration lucubrated, the characters of hydrogenerator unit vibration are summarized, and an identifying method is presented.Secondly, following an introduction of the rough set theory and method, the theory is combined with ANN and ES, and a fault analysis system is established. This system utilizes the rough set theory to reduce the input attribute of ANN, increase the speed for diagnosis, and through decision table, it helps elicit the decision rule of ES repository conveniently.Moreover, an overall structure of monitoring and fault diagnosis system for hydrogenerator unit is designed. It contains the design of network for the system, software and hardware design, the choice of monitoring position and the type of the sensor.Eventually, the system is applied to analyze and diagnose the real-time monitoring data from No. 1 unit in Suofengying hydropower plant.
