Based on the project 《'The atrophy mechanism of the Wei river flower riverbed and the study of infection of protection flood》 supported by the main scientific research and foundation of the province -level main lab of shannxi" high-school, numerical simulation for movement of water-sediment by using the characteristic finite element method is mainly studied and some valuable results are obtained as follows:1. The numerical model of 1-D suspended sediment is constructed by the characteristic finite element method and the errors are analyzed. The models of water-sediment are computed by Matlab. From the comparison of numerical solution and analytic solution as well as results of numerical simulation of metrical dates of Hejin station from 1969 to 1999, we can learn that the models can be used to simulate the high-sediment river during a period of time.2. The numerical model of 1-D unsteady sediment transport is established by the characteristic finite element method and computed by the more accurate and steady Preissmann format. The numerical simulation is performed and analyzed under different initial and boundary conditions. This model can simulate the flood, water-sediment communication, flow variation, riverbed deformation and so on. This model has predictability.3. The numerical model of 2-D flow equation is constructed by using of the finite element method, the equations are calculated by forecasting, correcting, repeating and replacing format. This model can be used to the numerical simulation of anomalistic river boundary.
