Composite pile foundation with long and short piles is a new kind of pile foundation. It is necessary to research the bearing mechanics and working behavior of it. In view of the above, the following research works have been carried out in this paper:Firstly, the general developing situation and basic theory of composite pile foundation are summarized in this paper, and the research production in composite pile foundation with long and short piles is special introduced;Secondly, an indoor model test of composite pile foundation with of long and short piles have been designed and implemented, the working performance of long & short pile have been tested in this experimentation;Moreover, the results of the test have been packed up and analyzed. The relation between bearing capacity and settlement of composite pile foundation with long and short piles has been researched in different ratio and distribution of long & short pile;distribution of the axial force & skin friction along pile and the extent of bearing mechanics exert also can be got like this. Some valuable and regular conclusions can be drawn from them. Simultaneity, the author preliminary analyzed the defect in the model test, thus offering experience for model test for the future;Finally, based on the analyses done with ANSYS9.0 FEM program, the author imitates and analyses the model test. with the contrasted results of FEM and experiment testing, we draw some benefit conclusions. These conclusion can offer reference for project design and instruct engineering practice.
