High-speed image acquisition , processing system is a puzzling questionespecially in the field of on-time strip steel surface defect detection system. Based onthe advanced PC, it is nearly incredible to process the high-speed image data onreal-time. So, many people include some foreign experts do great effort to find a moreefficient method to solve this question. Based on the project 'Research on real-timestrip steel surface defect detection', sponsored by National Science & TechnologyDepartment, this article introduces a new method to the access of success.Considering the request of project, some PLD (Programmable Logic Device) isapplied to form the image data acquisition & processing system. The whole scheme isdivided into two parts. The first one is that using high-speed CCD (Charged CoupleDevice) to acquire the data of image. The second one is that an image pre-processsystem is designed based on an advanced FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). Inorder to realize some template-matching algorithm such as FIR filter, program iscomplied and simulated in HDL. At last, from the simulation, we draw this conclusionthat this scheme is efficient and reliable. The main work included in this dissertation are shown as follows:1.After analyzing and comparing the two detection scheme detailed, confirm that onebased on linear-CCD according to the request of this project.2.Design a linear-CCD driving circuit and a data acquisition circuit via EPP(Enhanced Parallel Port). Then reliable data is supplied for the next step of FPGAprocessing system.3.Describe some low-layer algorithm such as FIR filter, which is the represent of thetemplate-matching algorithm in VHDL (Very High Speed Hardware DescriptionLanguage). Based on the QuartusII 4.0 software, simulation is implemented with highspeed reliably.
