Methanol is one of the most promising substitutes of engine fuel. Compared withthe gasoline engine, the methanol engine has advantages in lower exhaust emission.Studies on the performance of spark ignition methanol engine with electronic ignition,especially the characteristics on exhaust emission and the improvement of coldstart,make a good sense of theory and practice for solving problems of the energy crisisand atmospheric pollution. The performances were compared between a methanol engine, Hl495JIQ,withnew combustion chambers and with old ones. The constant speed characteristics ofexhaust emission, and the full throttle characteristics on the methanol engine withelectronic ignition were analysed after the normal and unregulated exhaust emissionmeasured. Based on the standard on 9-mode test cycle, the exhaust emission wascompared between the fore and back of the catalytic converter, then the conversionefficiency of catalyst was researched. According to some standards, it was established that the bench test system formeasuring the evaporative pollutants from a fuel tank and the performance on fuelevaporative pollutants control system for adsorption of fuel vapors. The appropriateactive carbon absorption system was chose via measure. The study on thecharacteristics of methanol fuel absorption to active carbon was accomplished. Theresult shows: it is easy for active carbon to absorb methanol but methanol which hasbeen absorbed is difficult to escape from carbon. By contraries, gasoline has reverseproperty. In this article, there is more analyse and discussion. In addition to this, for finding a equipment that is suited to methanol engine withelectronic ignition to coldstart , feasible schemes were brought forward to deal withproblem on methanol engine coldstart. After some experiment, the performance ofcoldstart was improved greatly. At the same time, the exhaust emission was measuredduring coldstart. In this article, starting effect and exhaust emission were compared onvarious schemes. This thesis is contributed for methanol engine with electronic ignition, with thereference value for the correlation procuction of enterprise.
