Because of the complexity and high initial capital cost in designing air conditioning system of large space building, research in air conditioning system of gymnasium is not conducted comprehensively in China, especially on the simulation and practical test. In recent years, with the development of computer industry and Computational Fluid Dynamics, it becomes possible to simulate and predict air distribution, thermal comfort of design system based on CFD technology in buildings. For this purpose, with the aid of Airpak2.1, air distribution of air-conditioning system is simulated in Wuxi Gymnasium, and the practical test is also conducted. Through detailed expatiation on CFD by mathematic method, the results indicate that it is feasible to simulate the operation of air conditioning system in large space building. Besides, temperature field, velocity field, predicted mean vote, and predicted percentage of dissatisfied in this airflow mode are analyzed, and the results are validated by actual test. 1. The temperature field and velocity field in some occasion are tested in summer in Wuxi Gymnasium, and a simulation under this condition is carried out based on CFD technology. After that, the simulation results are compared with test result, which demonstrates the feasibility of CFD technology. 2. With CFD technology, the air distribution considering people and light is also simulated in summer. 3. On the basis of simulation, the character of air distribution is analyzed and provided in detail, and velocity fields in auditoria and venue are given. Besides, relevant thermal comfort parameters such as temperature field, velocity field, and the law governing airflow distribution are given separately in order to provide useful reference for the future design of gymnasium. At last, energy conservation effect is taken into consideration.
