With the rapid development of highway construction, the designs andconstructions of the roadbed projects with soft soil foundation conditions have beenconducted in a wide range in China. Abundant experiences have been accumulatedthrough enormous experimental and theoretical analyses. In this paper, the status ofthe technology on soft soil foundation treatment in recent years is summarized.Various techniques of soft soil foundation treatment have been developed and eachhas its own merit and defect. Since the restriction of the roadbed settlement of highspeed highway is very strict and the phenomenons of instability or excessivesettlement often occured, selecting a rational technique affects the quality, theinvestment and the progress of the whole project.The design of the soft soil foundation treatment in DanZhuang highway projectis introduced in this paper. The project has use several soft soil treatment method suchas the gravel pile,cement powder spraying pile,plastic drain bar,dead weightpreloading method. The main points of the basic theory, the design proposal as well asthe construction technology of these soft soil foundation treatment techniques aredescribed in detail. In the period of construction, enormous observation on settlementand displacement is conducted and the data have been processed and analyzed. Themerits and defects as well as the applicability of the soft soil foundation treatmenttechniques used in DanZhuang highway project are investigated referring to theirranges of application, treatment effects and view of construction. The result of thispaper indicates that corresponding techniques can be applied to different soft soilfoundation, and basing on the theories of various soft soil foundation treatmenttechniques, the rational technique can be determined according to the soil type, thefoundation condition, the road situation, the construction constrains and the estimatedbudget so as to obtain the best treatment effect.
