With the rapid development of expressway construction in China, the prevention to accidents has been paid close attention to. It is very important research and development of methods to prevent traffic accidents. Developing the avoidance system is one of the efficient methods to decrease collision accidents on expressway.Established a safe distance models for the vehicle to avoid collision. Make the general algorithms of braking distance by anglicizing the different stages of braking. By comparing, we choose of Frequency modulation Continuous Wave radar as vehicle radar detects obstacles in front of the vehicle. The FMCW radar not only meets the needs of distance, but the key is it in any weather conditions can detect targets, and accuracy will not be affected. Being convinced of the complicated circumstance of road when driving the vehicle, we had studied the data association in radar data process. In order to detect and track forward moving target in real time, the signals of Radar are filtered by Kalman filter. A safe distance model of automotive collision warning radar was introduced. To test this model, we had simulated by this model by software of MatLab/Simulink, and proved this model was feasible.Through this research, basically established an automotive collision warning system to follow-up the development, production provided theoretical basis, and provided a direction of future ITS(Intelligent Transportation System).
