The surface electric fields and the surface charge distribution play an important roleon the electric insulation performance of insulators. This thesis mainly focuses on theinfluence of conducting particles on the surface electric fields and the accumulatedsurface charge density of insulator. Using FEM analysis software ANSYS, the electricfields of insulator and the electrode system has been analyzed;a new type ofelectrostatic probe for surface charge distribution measurement has been developed;Surface charge density and flashover characteristics of insulator have been investigatedin vacuum with DC applied voltage. Base on the research results, the surface electricfield of insulators ascend with the increase of the length of particles, and descend withthe increase of the diameter of particle;when particle is close to the metallic electrode, the surface electric field of insulator ascend dramatically. Because of the existing ofconducting particle, the speed of surface charge accumulation become slowly, but itsinfluence is limited. The flashover voltage of insulators descend with the increase of thelength of particle, and ascend with the increase of the diameter of particle, and thesurface charge density of insulator diminished obviously after flashover.
