As a novel energy storage technology, the variable mass energy transformation and storage (VMETS) technology can complete energy indirect transform and storage. It easily transforms the stored working fluid chemical potential into heat, cold or dehumidifying energy that is necessary in heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) engineering to settle power lack on the power-used peak in most areas. The paper studies an open energy storage system for dehumidifying and air-conditioning using H2O-LiCl mixture as working fluid and completes numerical simulation and analysis for it using variable mass energy transformation and storage (VMETS) technology. Then, it proceeds to simulation using a typical office building air-conditioning as example. According to the simulation result, it analyses system variation rules on performance parameters and each unit thermal load parameters.Firstly, the theory and character of various energy storage technologies were summarized. After comparisons with these technologies, it shows that VMETS is superior to others in dehumidifying of air-conditionings. Secondly, the work cycle and flow of the advanced energy storage system for dehumidifying and air-conditioning were described. A dynamic model for system storage/release energy system was developed, and the model was applied to simulate the air-condition system of an office building with independent new wind system in a high wet region in the south of China. With the strategy of full quantity energy storage in the simulation, system running parameters, compressor conditions parameters, the volume of the storage tin, and the thermal load parameters of various thermal equipments as function of time and outside conditions under different working conditions were simulated. The results help to understand and grasp the energy transformation rules and running characters of advanced energy storage systems for dehumidifying and air-conditioning, and also provide basic data for designing, choosing, and controlling the equipments of the system. And the economic analyzing evaluation of the system technology etc. can also get some basic data from the results.Based on the research on work characters of the energy storage system for dehumidifying and air-conditioning with H2O-LiCl mixture as working fluid, it shows that the model and simulation results could bring some practical value. It also proves that the open energy storage technology is superior to other traditional energy storage technologies for dehumidifying and air-conditioning, and it is the future development direction.
