In virtue of the advantages of fiber-reinforced plastic/polymer (FRP), light-weight, high-strength, nice environmental and fatigue resistibility, it has been widely used in the filed of strengthening and repairing in the past two decades. Recently, a new technology of strengthening structures with near-surface mounted (NSM) FRP has been proposed (The beams are strengthened using FRP inserted into a prepared groove cut at the concrete cover). As a new strengthening technique, NSM FRP has many virtues than other reinforcement. It's accepted by lots of scholars and engineers. Sufficient tests are urgently needed to provide mature theory for practice.NSM FRP strengthening technique has been used in practice for many years, but advanced theory study is still lacked of, especially in shear strengthening.Base on the shear failure performance of NSM FRP strengthening technique, the influence factors such as, FRP strain distribute rule, bond strength, FRP strengthened ratio etc., are considered, and the shear strength formula of NSM FRP reinforced concrete beams is deduced. At the same time, the rationality of the formula is checked by comparing test date with finite element analysis (FEA). Finally, the shear strength formulas under different shear failure modes are established. It is concise of the formulas, although different factors are taken into consideration. It is useful for engineering practice in certain level.
