The storage and playment is one of primary technique of car-mounted multimedia audion-visual system. Traditional compression algorithms of computer screen images(such as RLE, LZW or JPEG) can not meet the requirements of both the compression ratio and decompression speed of microchip-system. This paper takes the focus on the development and design of the compression and decompression system which is based on images of the car-mounted multimedia audion-visual system.1. A multi-sub-blocking compression algorithm is presented in this paper. First the screen image is divided into some simple and complex blocks according to the threshold of colours, than the complex blocks ar divided one more time, than the anamorphic compression algorithm is used to the simple blocks and the un-aunamorphic compression algorithm is used to the complex blocks.2. A real-time decompression algorthm is presented in this paper. The contrary algorithm is used to the relevant blocks, than the blocks are compounded into a image as the output of this system.3. The system adopts 32-bit multimedia chip Virgine G2 CPU. The circuit of Virgine G2 CPU and memory , RS232 communication interface circuit and overlap display circuit of image , graph and character are developed.4. Software of receival , compression and storage and uncompression and display of images are devised in EISC STUDIO development environment.Result of experiments shows that textual multi-sub-blocking compression and decompression algorthm has higher compression ratio and higher decompression speed than traditional compression algorithms.
